Teaching the Meaning of Easter...

We had a great Easter weekend! We had an Easter egg hunt at Teds sisters house. The kids had a great time looking for hundreds of plastic eggs with candy and toys in them. The older kids brought backpacks to fill :-)
it was lots of fun, Thanks Pam.
-.-.-.-.-.

That night the three of us were cuddled on Daeshas' bed talking about the day and getting ready for prayers. When Ted and I decided to tell Daesha the Easter story. I went and got pictures out of our awesome pack of church lesson pictures we got at Deseret Book. I began by showing her the picture of Christ on the cross and told her, "Some people were mean and did not want Jesus to teach the gospel". Daesha said, "ya, and He was nice". So far so good.... Then I pointed out the nails in his hands and the blood that was on his hands. She was silent. I told her that Jesus died on the cross and then He was placed in a tomb. Still silence. Maybe I was being too grafic for a 3 year old. I looked at Ted for help and he didn't say anything either. I then pointed out the tomb and the rock that was the door over the tomb. Daesha did not ask one question, she just stared at the picture. I was beginning to think I was going to scare her. Then Ted brought out the next picture of Chist and Mary. He said, "after 3 days Jesus came alive again. This was a miracle. He talked to Mary and told others that they can live again too. After we die we go to heaven, and then when Christ says the time is right everyone who is dead will come alive again". Daesha still didn't say a word. um I guess we tried. And that was the extent of teaching our 3 year old about Easter. I can only hope that when she is told this story again she will remember some of what we said to her.

So on Easter day we took the hyped up traditions of easter and had Daesha look for some eggs we colored the night before. She broke every egg when she dropped them in her basket, so we had egg sandwitches for breakfast. And then we took her down in our basement where there were 2 chicks. Yes Chickens!! We are keeping them in our dog's kennel until they are bigger. Then they are going to Pams house where she is getting chickens of her own and building a coop. Thanks again Pam! This will be good for Daesha because she can go see the chickens and also help harvest the eggs.
