The Bow hunt.. I haven't missed it since I was about 13 years old. I really didn't want to rent a trailor this year (saving for Hawaii) and Keegan was still waking up alot at night. So sharing a trailor was out of the question. Ted went with his dad, brother-in-laws, and the 2 oldest nephews. They didn't camp with the Searles but did some hunting with them throughout the weekend. I've posted pictures of Teds bloody arrow(s) and broad head with the deer hair on it. Ted missed 2 deer but shot the 3rd one twice!! He followed a very good blood trail to where it was bedded down and as it saw him it started to get up so Ted shot it again. But he never did find it after it ran off again. The kids and I drove up on Sunday for the group lunch and participated in the other fun family activities everyone does on sunday. Every year after lunch we do a candy hunt for the kids and Ted always brings the candy cannon. The kids love the big boom. This year we shot out plastic braclets. In the past some of the candy would catch fire and fall to the the ground; chard. Then after the candy hunt is the PEPSI CHALLENGE. To participate you must contribute a can of pepsi (or other carbinated drink. I've heard it must be caffeinated) then all the hunters line up 100 yards away from the deer target and the first one to hit the kill zone wins the loot of pepsi. It's pretty boring to watch but all the women cheer on the mighty hunters. After that we all pile in our trucks and go to blue lake. This has been my favorite thing we do on the hunt. We don't just drive to the lake... it's a long drive and at some points pretty muddy and bumpy. It's always best to go first because then you have the chance to place logs across the road to slow the others down so you have time to ambush the coming trucks. We pick western cornflowers and use them as ammo. Everyone gets so into the game even the drivers of the trucks yell and cheer and sometimes gun it over the logs. I never stop laughing the entire trip. Once we arrive to the lake we sit and take pictures, skip rocks, and fish. My brother-in-law Scott caught two fish at the same time!
