Halloween 2012

This post is so late it's just embarrassing...
Our new neighborhood brought us a few different surprises this Halloween. The first was our churches trunk-r-treat. We have been to several of these in the past couple years. They can be really fun if everyone gets into the spirit of Halloween and decorates their cars in the parking lot. If nobody does this I personally think it boring, it's basically going from car to car giving out candy. So with grand hopes to make the kids enjoy the trick-r-treat we arrived at our church building with time to decorate our Suburban. It wasn't fancy, literally took decorations off my walls at home. All we had some white meshy fabric we hung off the back hatch, and Ted plugged the fogger into the vehicles battery using an adaptor of some sort. Ted dressed up as a grim reaper he sat in a camping chair just inside the veil of the mesh fabric. I wore my witch outfit from this years Withes Night Out.
As the 4 of us were having fun decorating we started to notice that we were the only people decorating!!!!!
We noticed everyone staring and then started coming over to see what we were up to. Apparently this area doesn't do trunk-r-treating the way we do!  It was embarrassing getting ALL the attention but luckily Ted and I got over it real fast and had a great time! Of course Ted didn't scare the little kids but those girls and boys between the ages of 12 and 14 were a ton of fun. One group of 13 year old girls kept coming back and daring each other to touch Teds hand. He sat motionless while one girl touched his gloved hand. Then the girl said he is real but he cant get out of the chair. At that moment Ted leaped out of his chair and chased them down the parking lot! the girls loved it, screaming as if they were scared but you could see they were enjoying the thrill of being chased.
After the trunk-r-treat we went inside the church building to a live band and dancing. Neither one of our kids wanted to dance so we left. Here are a couple picture I took of our night.

Daesha is a Vampire. Keegan is Obi-Wan Kenobi or was it Luke Skywalker????

Keegan found Darth Vader when we arrived at the church. Keegan told him that the dark side was not allowed in Jesus' house! Keegan was joking of course but the boy was serious about defending his honor. This is one time that Keegan had an audience and he didn't even notice. He just thought it was funny to banish his foe.

Decorating pumpkins is my least favorite Halloween tradition. Daesha is finally old enough to carve her entire pumpkin all by herself. Keegan won't even touch his so Ted and I have to do Paper,Rock, Scissors to see who gets to carve and who gets to empty the guts. I lost the first round and had to empty out the guts. I had gunk under my nails for days to prove it. Keegans design he picked was pretty detailed so we split the work. Ted did the skull. I did the pirate swords.
Daesha took her pumpkin next door to carve with her friend Kait. Every year Daesha likes to do a cat. She did a fantastic job!

Halloween night we thought we would be hitting it big since we live in an apartment and condominium neighborhood. SO MANY HOUSES, JUST STEPS AWAY FROM EACH OTHER!!!We went with our neighbors the Dunns and a few other kids in our complex. We hit at least 40 houses!!!! Only about 10 of those opened the door.:( The others were not home or they had set a bowl of candy on the porch for the kids to help themselves. SO BORING!! The worst part was that I was dumb and assumed a ton of kids would be coming to our house (I see tons of kids everyday in our neighborhood) so Ted stayed home with a HUGE bowl of candy. When we got home the bowl was still full!!!! Has Halloween changed that much since I was a kid. Nobody seems to go door to door anymore. I love Halloween! #1 I love yelling TRICK OR TREAT!!! #2 I love to dress up. #3 I love to get candy #4 I love to have fun!

Amazing decor and they still weren't home. Such a letdown...

Lizzy came along for the 2 hour walk. She wore these adorable bat wings.

2 hours and 40 houses later..... Daesha is happy with her stash. Too bad she hasn't yet realized her mom gets all the chocolate and peanut butter cups...
