I want to do something fun..

Today Daesha told me she wanted to do something fun. I said ok do you want to go to the pool? No I want to go to the mall. I thought she really doesn't want to do that. Four year olds dont go to the mall for fun. I swear it sounds like we live at the mall. We really dont! Just lately the mall comes up alot. Anyway, I called my sister. She said she was going to the mall with her girls, Ok I guess today is a mall day. So we all went to the mall. We let the kids ride the carousel. Daesha loves to ride the dragon. I got a cute picture of her flying on her dragon. This next bit has to come with a little history so bear with me. Daesha has been asking about peircing her ears for a couple months. Ted and I have just tried to dodge the whole thing. When we adopted her her birthmom wanted to know how soon we'd be piercing her ears. Ted and I (especially Ted)was sure that wont be happening any time soon. Since then we have learned more about "african americans." We have noticed this must be a cultural thing. We have been asked by other blacks why her ears aren't pierced. Our reply was simply that we were giving that decision to her when she was old enough to want her ears pierced. She was asking but I couldn't bring myself to it. I had no real reason why other than I didn't want my little girl to grow up so fast. A few weeks ago when Daesha had asked again I told her horror stories. It was all I could think of!!! I told her it hurt really bad. Worse than a shot. She seemed to not like that very much so I knew it wouldn't come up again for many years. Today it did. A nice girl at the jewelery store loved Daesha and Keegan and wanted to give them a sucker. She went over to the area were they sit you in the high chair to pierce your ears. Daesha wanted to sit in the chair. I told her what it was for. In thought she would jump right down, remembering what I had told her. My plan backfired! She wanted her ears pierced right then. I reminded her that it really hurts and she insisted. Daesha worked the crowd and asked the girl if she would pierce her ears. Soon everyone was in on the great plan. She was so excited about the whole idea and then the sample earrings came out and that was the deal breaker. Daesha was really funny and totally excited. Here is the picture of her before. And here she is after. She cried for about 30 seconds and then she was ok. The cutest was Daesha's cousin Tiffany. My sister has a rule in her house. You must be eight to pierce your ears. Tiffany's birthday is in two months. She kept asking her mom if she could do it too. My sister has 6 kids she has more experience saying no than I do. But as Tiffany sat and watched and Daesha started to cry she burst out in tears too! I wish I had that on video. As soon as we got home Daesha was running to her friends house to show them what she did today. She said she will never pierce her ears again. I said that is good you will never get another piercing again. (anywhere) This video is so sad it just makes me want to hug her. But I thought I really wanted this on film. Her hair was really ugly today too. Wasn't expecting it to be such a big day.

That is so cute!! We have actually pierced Lauren's ears twice b/c she would take them out and they would grow up and then she would want them again. Well, the second time they grew up also (b/c she would take them out and didn't want anyone to touch her ear to put them back in) I have now told her that if she wants them again, it will be when she goes to do it herself (teenager). :)

The video almost made me cry! S has been begging to get her ears pierced. I think I'll show her your video.

That is such a sad video. I wanted to cry with her. I guess I am just a mean mom. My kids have to wait until they are 12. I had mine done when I was 14, that was the rule in my house growing up. We had to be old enough to take care of them ourselves. Am I too strict? She looks really cute, though. Love them!

Ahhh Chandra, you have gone to the dark side! I was hoping you would hold out with me for a few more years. The crying is sooo sad. :( I'm going to make Hannah watch the video so she won't want them.

So we just watched the video of my niece getting her ears pierced a couple days ago and it was so similar to your video. Cute Daesha. I was one of the last of my friends to get my ears pierced and it was hard to have to wait. (I, actually, really want Brianna to get her ears pierced, but she doesn't want to and I'm not pushing it - I just LOVE earrings because my hair is so short.) My mom and my 22 year old sister still don't have their ears pierced, so if Brianna chooses that, no problem.

Love that picture of Keegan!
I was probably only a little bit older than Daesha when I got mine pierced. My mom just waited till I wanted them so that I would take care of them. I bet Daesha's loving them now that they don't hurt anymore!

Coming from a family where my dad wouldn't allow us to have pierced ears, I had to wait until I was out of the house. I got mine when I was 18. I also thought I would make my girls wait until they were older but when Emily was supposed to be a flower girl in a wedding, she asked and I thought it would look so cute! Her dad apparently thought so too because he took her and Ashley to get them done. That is what you get when you don't set an age limit before hand! Daesha is so cute and I am sure she loves it! How does Ted feel about it?
