Going to the zoo and there is still snow on the ground

Warm weather is coming and we are dying to get out. Today was a nice 54 degrees. My friend called this morning to talk and thank me for watching her kids yesterday. She told me she was taking her kids to the zoo today. I told her that sounded like alot of fun (trying to hide the noticeable hint in my voice that I wanted to go too) she didn't miss the begging and invited us to go with them. It was a great day to go. Since today was leap day they had frog activities for the kids to do like coloring, jumping and holding your breath. And the zoo was full of baby animals from a ton of monkeys, penguins, and a giraffe. My friends little boy was really fun to watch he was so excited to see the animals. Each one he saw he would yell "Doggy", even the Elephants where dogs. Funny kid. Thanks Robyn for letting us go with you. We had a great time!

Winter Sucks!!!!

Our front door I am so done with winter and snow! Last night we got this freek storm that was supposed to just blow by in a couple hours. It did blow and blow and BLOW but it lasted pretty much all night! Some areas got it worse than others. Ted left work early because they got word that it was going to be a really bad commute. He couldn't even get on the highway when he left work. He called me and said he might need to get a hotel room. I told him not to even try coming home right now. All the roads were closed. Everyone was at a stand still until the visibility got better. Later Ted called and said he was going to the 7 o'clock movie(he saw I Am Legend, and really liked it) After the movie he called and said he was on his way home. At 12:30 he finally made it home. Only 6 hours later!!! He sat in one spot for 45 minutes just 1/2 mile from our house. As a joke I flashed our bedroom light at him so that he could find his way home. He said he could see it flashing. Ha, Ha. I have a video of the poor commuters trying to get homebut it wont download. (I'll work on it)Ted said as he passed the local grocery store the parking lot was packed with people who had decided to park for the night. A local Dentist was giving away toothbrushes. I felt so bad for those poor people especially the cars full of kids and poopy diapers. We were in bed at 1:00 and the cars were still stretched for miles. It also gives just a glimpse of what it will be like if there was some sort of emergency and everyone was on the road trying to leave. It was a little freaky. The kids and I had some fun while the power was out for 3 hours. Daesha and I got out some candles and roasted marshmellows on toothpicks. We stayed nice and warm in our bed wrapped up in our warm blankets. Once we got sick of eating roasted marshmellows we had a blast burning the crap out of them!! Keegan laughed every time they burst into flames.

Happy Birthday Daesha!

Daesha had a very spoiled 4th birthday. She had a "friend" party on Saturday with close friends and neighbor kids. As usual she had a few requests. She wanted all the kids to wear birthday hats and she wanted pink balloons and strawberry ice cream. Ted helped out with the party. (He was so thrilled..not)On Sunday we had family come over for a party. We had a Madagascar cake that Daesha picked out of the cake catalog. It wasn't my first pick but it still tasted ok. Then on Monday which was her real birthday she got to take cupcakes to her preschool class. I am all partied out but Daesha had a great time.

Braiding 101

This last Tuesday was HAIR DAY. Ever heard of the sports term HELL DAY, well this is pretty darn close. Tuesday morning I took Daesha's extensions out. Later that afternoon I started braiding. I am still pretty slow I finally had to stop at 11:00 pm and finish the rest the next day. Every time I try to cornrow her hair it looks terrible! I know how to do it and I can sorta' Anyway I decided that I was going to give it another try and even if its not fantastic I was going to leave them in and just keep practicing. I took these pictures to hopefully look back one day and laugh because hopefully I will get better at doing them. Maybe one day I will be cornrowing her whole head and not just a couple inches. Daesha does amazingly good to sit for as long as she does. It's fun to talk and watch the tv together but I honestly didn't realize how much work it would be to take care of her beautiful hair. Just a small rant and also to let you all realize the work I go through. First it starts with the product do and don'ts.. Its good to use all natural products but then it breaks down quickly and "goes bad" meaning it gets this rotten fruit smell. So if I am spending the extra money for all natural I am buying it twice as oftain because it goes bad so fast. Then there is the shea butter and natural oils you put on the days you dont wash the hair but if its used too much you could clog the pores and you never use mineral oils or petrolatum. Dont over wash.. Daesha only washes her hair once a week. Never use synthetic colors or fragrances. Keegan is especially irritable to fragrances so I use Cetaphil body wash and lotion on both kids. For the tuff dry areas I use Aquaphor. Both kids get lotioned up every day. So after knowing the basic hair care I still haven't found a product I love. I have tried all sorts of things and found some great shampoos, detanglers, leave in conditioners, pomade (used for braiding) a product for dry itchy scalp and of course braid spray. I have to admit the clips and beads are so much fun to use. I put all of Daesha's hair stuff in this fishing tackle box. It works great! You might laugh at some of the things in her box. It has things like crochet needles and floss threaders which I really do use for her hair.Ok I've gone on long enough. If you have read through this spill I am interested if you have a great product you use, or know of one someone else uses.

If you have a little girl this is a great hair box. It will fit anything from elastics to pony tails to ribbons, hair clips and BEADS! I just got it at Walmart.

My heart goes out to the Bracken family

Last night my friends Mom passed away. She was fighting ALS or better known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Thankfully it was a fairly short battle and she is home with her husband who passed a year ago. Kim, I love you so much and your Mom will be missed. She was a super lady, always willing to serve everyone and anyone. A loving woman but such a crazy driver!!! I will always remember her driving us to school in Jr. High. Praying for my life and hoping we didn't know that person she just flipped the bird to.

I am a great aunt

I just wanted to tell everyone about the newest addition in the family. My niece had a baby girl on January 12th. They named her Madelyn Janine. She was 8 lbs. 8 oz. 21 inches. It's so amazing how much she looks like her mommy. Happy to report both Mommy and baby are doing good.

Babies change so much! Just went to see Madelyn yesterday and I couln't believe how much she has grown, She is showing more resemlance to her Daddy. She is so dang cute! Never mind the huge scab on my daughters face.. she wont stop scratching at it :-( the next step is to put a bandaid across her chin.
